The Story of Bebe Bird

Hello!!

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

The journey of this brand has been a very, very, long one.

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Britney. I'm a proud mama of (update) now THREE beautiful girls and wifey of the raddest mathematician on earth...IMO:p

My love of clothing began at an early age. I became obsessed with having clothing that no one in my grade had. I would spend hours rummaging through thrift shops or my mom's old work clothing to find unique items. I had these outfit ideas in my head and seemed to be in this weird perpetual state of searching for my ideal outfit.

I guess you could say I was an odd kid haha. In my eighth grade yearbook I was voted 'Most Likely To Move To L.A. and Become A Fashion Designer'........never really understood the L.A. part.

By the time I got to highschool, I made the realization that I had to stop looking for the outfits I was envisioning and start creating them. I bought my first sewing machine and sewed my little ass off.

When it came time to go to college, the choice was pretty obvious. I could not imagine having any other career.

After graduating from a Fashion Design program in 2007, I moved to Montreal to pursue my dream of being a designer.

I got my first design job and, to be completely honest with you, it was not what I was expecting but I stuck it out. I moved around a bit, bounced around to a few different companies before I found my home, designing for a children's clothing company.

At the time I didn't have children and never thought this would be something I was into. I had only been involved in design for women's clothing but I ended up loving it. Designing tiny clothing was so much fun.

Then life happened.

I met a man, fell in love, got married and had babies, as most do. After the birth of my second daughter I was faced with the unfortunate choice that many mothers these days have to make, daycare costs or your career?

It was a tough decision but staying at home made more financial sense.

But I didn't want to completely throw in the towel. I decided to try my hand at having my own business. I had always wanted to do it and now I was finally in the right spot to try. So I jumped in.

It scared the shit out of me. There were so many new things to learn but I took it slow. Don't get me wrong, I most definitely still don't know what I'm doing when it comes to the business side of things but I love sitting down at my sewing machine and creating unique little pieces.

So if you've read this far, I'm sure you're wondering, "What's with the name?"

BEBE for my daughter Olive.

My husband is French and was very insistent that our kids go to French schools and daycares. Olive was my first to speak French so I always called her my little BEBE....I still kinda do.

BIRD for my second born daughter Ivy.

She's my little song bird. From the time she could speak, she was singing and making up songs. They always warm my heart.

And now we have a third baby girl, Willow. When I came up with the name, she wasn't even thought of. Perhaps I'll need to rebrand to incorporate her......

My mission with this kids clothing brand is to make unique items in environmentally friendly and original fabrics that are comfortable for tiny babes and easy to change for moms and dads.
